10 Relaxing Things To Do Before Bed
In today’s post, I am going to be sharing my favorite things to do before bed when I need to relax.
For many of us, an evening routine means changing into our pajamas and binge-watching Netflix on the couch until we get so tired that we walk over from the couch to the bed and pass out.
Which is fine once in a while, however, there are many better things you can do to relax.
Having a nighttime routine is one of the best things I’ve ever done. Now mind you, this does not happen every night. Some nights the couch wins.
But when I do take the time for self-care, I wonder why I don’t do it every night. Having a relaxing nighttime routine can release stress and wind your body down and get it ready for sleep.
So if you’re someone who has trouble falling asleep, it might be because you don’t have a routine you go through at night.
Without further ado, here are 10 things you can do at night to get you relaxed and ready for bed!

10 Steps To A Relaxing Night
Dim the lights
Warm, dim lighting is perfect for the nighttime, as it doesn’t cause a lot of strain on your eyes.
Turn on a few lamps and light some candles. It is going to instantly relax you and send signals to your body that it is nighttime.
Play around with the lighting in your house until you find the perfect mixture that won’t strain your eyes, and also will be soothing and relaxing for you.
Take a hot shower or bath
Personally, I would love to take baths every night, but I just think they take too long, especially during the workweek.
For me, hot showers are where it’s at. There’s something so relaxing about hot showers, and they have been known to release tension in muscles. Which is perfect after a long day out, and amazing for the nighttime.

Moisturize
Moisturizing after a shower is the best time to do it. It is going to lock in the moisture in your skin and keep you smooth all throughout the night.
Look for a heavier body moisturizer like this one from Nivea which is my personal favorite. So affordable, too, and one of these lasts me a very long time.
Change into comfy PJs
After you’ve moisturized yourself, slipping into fresh PJs should feel like an absolute dream!
Lately, I’ve been very into satin nightwear. The fabric feels so cooling on my skin which is great because I tend to get hot pretty much every night when I sleep.
Put on a face mask
My favorite discovery last year was sheet masks. Super hydrating, feel amazing because of their cooling effect, AND you don’t have to wash them off. They also make them for all skin types.
Another perk? A lot of brands make them for very affordable prices, so there is a sheet mask for everybody!
Put your phone away
When we scroll on our phones before bed, it can keep us awake much longer than if we didn’t.
Give your eyes and mind a break from looking through social media and checking emails. Those can wait.
Make some herbal tea
One of my favorite things for relaxation right before bed is drinking a hot cup of tea. Something about the warmth of it gets me sleepy instantly.
Of course, opting for a nice herbal tea is a better option as those don’t contain caffeine. My favorite lately has been chamomile tea.
Meditate
Meditation is a simple practice that can reduce stress, increase calmness and clarity and promote happiness.
Doing it before bed can, therefore, get you super sleepy and ready for a good night’s rest.
If you’re new to meditation, try some guided meditations on YouTube, or an app like Calm.
Spray lavender
I spray my pillows, duvet, and curtains with lavender spray before bed. The smell of lavender is calming to the body and makes us ready to sleep.
Read
If you can still keep your eyes open, take a few minutes to read a book you’ve been neglecting for months. Read a chapter tonight. Another one tomorrow. You’ll be done in no time.
