Ell has been a huge inspiration for countless bloggers, including myself.
I remember reading a lot of her posts on Pinterest before I even started blogging, which is funny because she now has a course on how to grow your blog using Pinterest!
Because I’ve been such a big fan of her posts and the energy she exudes online, I was thrilled when she took some time out of her busy schedule to answer the following questions.
I know you will all enjoy learning more about Ell, so without further ado, here is the interview.
Interview with Ell Duclos
1. What did you hope to achieve when you first started blogging?
When I first started blogging I went in with a mindset of hopefully creating a full-time job for myself while also doing something I love! I think because I was feeling so STUCK being a college dropout and full-time waitress, I knew right from the start what I wanted and didn’t stop until I made it happen.
2. Who are some of your favorite bloggers?
There are so many bloggers who I had the pleasure of interacting with! One of my blogging besties Jess is an awesome fashion blogger, her style is super unique and cute! https://lifeaftertheglassslipper.com I also love Christine she is an amazing blogger and super supportive! http://theuncorkedlibrarian.com I wish I had more time on my hands to read more blogs! There are so many incredible bloggers out there!
3. What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
I think my favorite thing about blogging would be all of the opportunities it’s lead me to! Being able to meet so many inspiring people, being able to travel to places I’ve never been before and just being able to do what I love every day has given me a sense of purpose.
4. When did you realize, “Wow, this is turning into something”?
I would say 6 months after starting my blog and creating my Boss Girl Bloggers community. I remember I had my first $1,500 month from blogging 6 months in and it felt crazy. I thought to myself, wow I could actually make this work! My community also grew to over 15,000 members which was insane to me.
I remember going to a conference and meeting some really awesome people. I had mentioned my BGB community and they were like “no way! I love that community!” And remember feeling shocked that they were part of it! I always had this vision to create my own career opportunities but still needed to pinch myself that it could actually become my reality. Once I was able to quit my job at the beginning of 2019 I knew that this was what I was really meant to do.
5. What’s a blogging tool you can’t live without?
I would definitely say Pinterest! It’s been a huge tool when it comes to growing my blog traffic and audience. I recently had a panic moment when Pinterest blocked my website by mistake. It felt like my blogging world was ending, that’s how much I LOVE and use Pinterest daily! Luckily we are back in action and all good now!
6. What’s a piece of advice you would give someone who is struggling with their blog?
I think my biggest piece of advice would be to create that “I am a bada**” mindset and don’t let yourself ever think otherwise. You really need to also commit yourself to your blog if you are trying to make it your full-time job. I remember working late every night after long doubles. If you don’t put in the time, you can’t be disappointed when it doesn’t work out. Also, be patient and don’t compare! Sometimes it works out quicker for some and that’s okay. We all have our own timelines and everything works when it’s supposed to!
7. What has been your biggest blogging achievement?
I would say my biggest blogging achievement would be when I was finally able to quit my waitressing job. I felt a huge weight lifted, it was like all my hard work was finally paying off.
8. Aside from blogging, how else do you spend your time?
I LOVE watching reality tv and drinking wine. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends and family!
9. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself married with 2 kids in a home that may not be perfect, but will be perfect for us! Hoping to still be doing what I love full-time!
10. What can we expect from you in the future?
You can expect me to continue to say what’s on my mind and hopefully continue to put out content that can help others turn their passion into a career too! I always say, find what makes you excited and figure out how to turn that into a business opportunity!
Thank you again, Ell, for doing this!
