How To Improve Your Lifestyle This Year
Stop wasting your time
There are so many ways you can start saving time instead of wasting it. For starters, if you hate cleaning and it takes you forever to clean your house, you can hire help a few times a month. Let’s say you don’t like to grocery shop and hate thinking of new recipes constantly. You can get a subscription to one of the many food delivery subscriptions like Hello Fresh that take all the thinking away from you.
There is almost always a way to get things done faster, all it takes is a little imagination and maybe a short Pinterest or Google session.
You can get so many things done in the time you free up. Work out, meet up with a friend, catch up on sleep, go on a solo date somewhere.. the possibilities are endless.
Work on your health and fitness
You know the saying, “Health is wealth”? It really is true. If you don’t have your health, you don’t really get to enjoy anything else in your life. The problem is that many of us take our health for granted. Let’s change that this year, shall we?
Here are the basics of staying on top of your health and fitness.
Find a workout you enjoy. That can be as easy as a 30-minute daily walk. You can dance, do pilates, weightlift, do Zumba, or even do yoga. There are hundreds of workouts you can do, but the key is to do something that makes you happy. If you hate running, simply don’t do it.
Eat more whole foods. More fruit, vegetables, lean meats and nuts. Try to limit the processed foods and simple carbs to a few times a week. As long as you are eating healthy at least 55% of your week, you are eating healthy.
Start taking your finances seriously
It’s never too early to start being better with your money. Having money is a necessity, and a major part of upgrading your life is learning how to manage your finances for a better future.
There are tons of helpful books on financial literacy, many different blogs, and countless YouTube channels and TikTok videos that can all help you learn more about money management.
When taking your money seriously, you should look into saving, investing, growing your income, and maybe even starting a side business.

Take time for yourself
You should always make time for yourself, no matter what. Everybody is busy and has responsibilities, but prioritizing yourself should never come last.
Try to block out at least 20 minutes for yourself every day. Whether that is on your lunch break, early in the morning before everyone wakes up, or right before bed. That should be your me-time, and it should be a non-negotiable part of your day.
Do something during that time that makes you happy. Pour into your own cup- it’s on you to take care of yourself.
Cut out negativity
Negative people can be the biggest energy suckers. Sometimes we are forced to be around them, unfortunately. Whether your boss is the biggest negative Nancy you know, or someone in your family never has anything good to say, you should try as much as possible to distance yourself from them.
If you hear someone being negative, it is best to excuse yourself from the conversation. A simple, “Excuse me, I’ll be back as soon as I can” is enough to get away.
Negativity also comes in the form of what we consume in terms of news, TV and music. Try to listen to things that make you feel good instead of always taking in stressful content. Motivational podcasts are a great replacement for negative news channels.
Read more books
Books fuel the mind and soul and are perfect for someone looking for a lifestyle upgrade. There are so many different books on leveling up, motivation, mindset, etiquette, health and the list goes on and on.
If the thought of reading overwhelms you, you can choose an area of improvement each month. That month, read one book that pertains to that area of improvement. By the time the year is over, you will have consumed a good amount of knowledge about 12 different areas you can improve in.
Take a browse through some of these personal development books as a start.
Take mental health seriously
Mental health is a huge part of our lives, and it often gets neglected. There are many families that don’t talk about mental health, mostly because of cultural norms and the “shame” that it would bring upon the family.
If this sounds familiar to you, ditch that way of thinking and find someone to help you. Ideally it would be a therapist or counsellor. If that isn’t possible for you, open up to a friend or anyone you trust and let things out of your system. You can even journal to get things off your chest.
Find an avenue that helps you work on your mental health and that works for you, and you won’t regret it. Of course, there are severe mental health problems that take more than just discussions to fix. If this is the case with you, then you definitely need professional help. Don’t be afraid to ask for it.
Travel more
As much as you can, try to travel any chance you get. It doesn’t even have to be far from home. Traveling can show you so many beautiful places you would never otherwise have known existed. It opens you up to different experiences, different people, delicious food and beautiful sights.
Definitely try to get out of your normal routine and see as much of the world as you can. You will cherish these memories forever, and it will help you massively grow as a person.
I hope you enjoyed this post on how to upgrade your lifestyle and took some tips on how you can upgrade yours. There are many more things you can do to improve the quality of your life but that would take a whole lot of hours more to write. In the meantime, always try to be better than you were yesterday. Visit that new place. Try that new funny looking fruit. Meet people from different backgrounds. Put $20 into your emergency fund. Any baby steps forward count.
