1- Make a budget
You knew this would be on this list, right? That’s because even though it is repeated advice, it works. Budgeting your expenses is a tried and true way to save.
Without a budget, you can’t pinpoint where your money goes or how much you are spending. Saving money is all about you being in control, and you can’t be in control if you don’t know where your money is going.
2- Declutter and sell
Do you have things lying around your house that you never use? Why not get rid of them, which will create more room for things you actually use?
This will also help you profit from things you don’t need anymore. If you’re someone who keeps a lot of useless things around your house, you can make thousands of dollars selling them on places like Poshmark or eBay!
3- Plan your meals
Many people waste a lot of money on food they will never get to eat before it goes bad.
The next time you have an empty fridge and need to go grocery shopping, take out a notebook and plan your meals for the next couple of weeks. We’re talking breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and dinners.
Then, only buy items that are going to be used for making those meals.
Not only will you save money on groceries this way, but none of your food will go to waste!
4- Buy generic brands
Most brand names in the grocery stores and drug stores have dupes at much lower prices.
You can buy almost the same product from a generic brand and save a lot of money that way.
5- Unsubscribe from brand emails
Brands often send out emails with urgent discounts and many times, consumers get sucked into buying things they don’t need.
Ditch the temptation for buying useless things by unsubscribing from these emails, and save yourself from spending unnecessary money.

6- Have a no-spend week
An easy way to save some money throughout the month is by having a no-spend week. That means only buying essentials, and nothing else. You might be surprised at how much money you spend a week on non-necessary things.

7- Make your coffee at home
Buying coffee at your favorite coffee shop might not seem like a big expense, right? Let’s do some quick math.
If you buy a simple $3 cup of coffee every day, that adds up to $90 a month, and a whopping $1,080 a year. And that’s if you get a basic cup of coffee without any additives or syrups.
By learning how to make coffee at home, you will be able to save upwards of $1000 a year which you can put towards your savings.
8- Use cashback websites
This is one of my favorite money-saving hacks. Online shopping is becoming more and more popular, and what better way to shop than to get cashback on your purchases?
A really good cash-back website is Rakuten. In addition to making money on your purchases, you can also get exclusive discounts and coupons to save even more money. You can get those cool benefits across 2,500 stores, so if you’re someone who likes to do their shopping online, definitely sign up to Rakuten and take advantage of their services.

9- Auto-pay your bills
Make sure your bills get paid on time to avoid any late fees by simply signing up for auto-pay. Late fees are awful and with all the bills you already must have, there’s no reason to be paying more than you already owe.
10- Pay yourself first
Whenever you get paid, automatically put money aside for savings or investments. That way, you would have paid yourself first, before paying your bills and spending your other money on day-to-day things.
11- By multiple-use beauty products
A good hack to save some money if you like your beauty products is to buy products you can use for multiple things. For example, a bronzer can double up as an eyebrow shadow. Your blush can also be used as an eyeshadow. Lipliners can be used as colorful liners.
12- Go thrifting
Buying second-hand can save you so much money on things like appliances, clothes, and even furniture. Before heading to regular stores, give your local thrift shop a browse to see if you can find something you’re looking for.
Chances are, you will, and you will save money on it. Places online like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are also filled with good gems!
13- Don’t go grocery shopping hungry
The only thing worse for your budget than grocery shopping without a list is grocery shopping while hungry.
When you’re hungry, everything looks good and makes you feel like you need it all. Make it a point to have a great meal at home first, and then hit the store for your shopping needs.
14- Use discount websites for entertainment
Places online like Groupon are perfect for saving money on excursions, entertainment, and even hotel bookings. You can also find beauty services there that will be majorly discounted.
You don’t have to sacrifice fun or self-care when saving money. Just make smart choices and always look for a discount online.

15- Grow your own food
Growing your food is very economical and a wonderful hobby to keep. You can use your backyard to plant fruits and vegetables, or if you live in an apartment, you can plant herbs by your window sill.
16- Avoid buying processed food
Processed food is often priced much higher than whole foods. Cutting out a lot of the packaged snacks, chips and dips can save you a lot of money over time.
You can either make your own or save the processed foods for special occasions.
17- Plug out appliances when not using them
Did you know that appliances that are plugged in still use electricity even if they’re turned off? Plug them out when not in use to help you save some money on your electricity bill.
18- Avoid credit card interest
Try your hardest to pay your credit card bill on time. Interest on credit card fees can not only ruin your credit score, but again, you’ll be spending unnecessary money.
19- Save your change
Think your change won’t amount to anything? Think again! Change can and should be saved over a period of time. Every few months, trade your change for dollars and you’ll be surprised at how much you can accumulate from just keeping your change!
20- Always look for coupons
Whether you shop in-store or online, always look for a coupon. You can save so much money by just taking some extra time to shop smartly.
