Skincare is the basis of a glowy complexion. In this post, you are going to be reading about ways in which you can take care of your skin and achieve a youthful and glowy complexion.
Taking care of your skin can be frustrating if you don’t know where to start. There are so many different skincare myths out there that it’s difficult narrowing down what might work for you.
However, there are simple things you can add to your skincare routine that will help you get glowy skin. Most of these tips apply to all skin types, but it’s always good to try out new methods to see if you find something you like.
Unless you have a serious skin condition or have very sensitive skin, you should be able to find these tips helpful in achieving clear and glowy skin.

1- Get enough water.
Drinking enough water every day is crucial to having glowy skin. Our bodies need water for various bodily functions and to keep our skin healthy.
Water helps to remove impurities and toxins from the body which keeps the skin clear and keeps sebum to a minimum.
If you’re having trouble drinking water, carrying a reusable water bottle around helps many people drink more. Additionally, you can also infuse your water with herbal teas, honey, and fruit to give it a more pleasant taste.
2- Eat more whole foods.
What you eat definitely has an impact on how your skin will look. Avoiding an excess of processed foods is really going to help with keeping your skin glowy and clear.
Getting more whole foods in your diet like fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats is going to give your body the nutrients it needs to give your skin a boosted glow.
So if you’ve been eating a lot of processed food, try replacing them with healthier alternatives.
3- Always wear sunscreen.
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. No matter the weather, wear it.
Besides keeping your skin safe from the harmful sun rays that can cause skin cancer and sunspots, wearing sunscreen is also great for keeping your skin looking youthful.
You should be re-applying sunscreen throughout the day, too, especially if you’re outdoors. Did you know that you can also put sunscreen on top of makeup? Yup! Simply get a spray-on sunscreen and spray it on top of your makeup if you’ve been out for more than a couple of hours.
Here are some great picks:
4- Never sleep with makeup on
Sleeping with makeup on is horrible for your pores. Your skin needs time to breathe without a barrier of makeup on top of it, so take off your makeup before bed.
It would be even better if you took it off as soon as you come home.
5- Moisturize daily
Every single skin type should use moisturizer, even oily skin. Especially after washing your face, putting on some moisturizer will rehydrate your skin and keep it soft and supple.
You should choose your moisturizer based on your skin type. Normal to dry skin can benefit from a thick cream and combination-to-oily skin responds better to lighter, gel creams.
If you have sensitive skin, you might have to try a few moisturizers before you find the one.
Here are some of my favorites:
6- Wash your face with a gentle cleanser
Cleansing your skin morning and night is a non-negotiable step in anybody’s skincare routine. However, sometimes the cleansers we use can be very harsh and stripping.
It’s always good to start to wash your face with a gentle cleanser that won’t irritate your skin.
A good tip for cleansing your face is to lather the cleanser in your hands and then apply it to your face. Also, make sure to wash your face for about a minute each time to ensure that it is clean.
7- Exfoliate!
Removing dead skin cells is crucial to achieving that glow. There are numerous exfoliators out there, but for the face, it is more advisable to go the chemical exfoliator route.
Exfoliating a couple of times a week is plenty for most people, as you don’t want to irritate your skin by over-exfoliating.
Below are some exfoliators worth trying:
8- Don’t sleep on masks
If you haven’t been using masks in your skincare routine, this might be a good time to start. There are so many amazing masks on the market these days, ranging from illuminating to cleansing to everything in between.
Choose one suitable for your skin type and apply once or twice a week for the ultimate glow.

9- Add vitamin C to your routine
Vitamin C has many skin benefits and it is totally worth it to add it to your skincare routine. Does vitamin C help your skin glow? Absolutely.
It can hydrate and brighten your skin, as well as helps to even out your skin tone and reduce redness, among other amazing benefits.
A good way to add it to your skincare routine is by using a vitamin C serum. Just make sure to always apply SPF after applying vitamin C to your skin.
10- Get a facial if you can
Facials are a wonderful addition to any skincare routine, and they don’t have to break the bank. You can easily find deals on popular facials like Hydrafacials, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels for a discount on Groupon.
Going for a facial as little as twice a year can improve your skin dramatically and give you an amazing glow year-round.
11- Up the glow with highlighter
Sometimes skincare alone isn’t enough for a super glowy complexion. If you’re someone who loves the glow, applying some highlighter to the high points of your face will complement your face beautifully.
