There are so many things you can do to help you improve your appearance and make you feel better.
When you look good, you feel good. It is a clear confidence booster to look put-together and feel comfortable in your skin.
2020 was a year of a lot of uncertainty and many of us have not been in the best headspace. Which is why I think that a little self-care and TLC can help boots your mood and make you feel a little better about yourself.
These beauty hacks are not all costly, and you are free to pick and choose any that speak to you the most. The point, again, is looking good and feeling good.
20 Life-Changing Beauty Tips You Must Try
Stay Hydrated
Let’s start with the basics. You probably know that drinking water has many health benefits, but did you know that staying hydrated also helps you look better?
It’s true. Drinking enough water can make your skin feel more plump, and it can also help your hair and nails stay looking healthy.
If you’re someone who doesn’t enjoy drinking water for whatever reason, you can get a liquid water enhancer that will make your water taste like a flavored juice.
The bottom line is, drink water even if you have to trick yourself that it’s something else.
Get Enough Shut-Eye
Another basic tip, but getting enough sleep at night does wonders for your complexion and overall health. Have you ever seen someone and just knew that they had a rough night? Yeah, it definitely shows.
Try to create a nighttime routine like this one which will train your body to sleep at the same time each night. Your body and eye bags will thank you.
Take Off Your Makeup Before Bed
One of the best things you can do for your skin is to properly cleanse it at night.
Going to bed with makeup on is a BIG no-no. Not only will this clog your pores, but it will also make your skin look dull and lifeless overtime.
My favorite way to take off my makeup is to double cleanse. First I take off my makeup with micellar water (this one is my favorite!), and then I go in with my favorite cleanser. My skin feels clean and ready to be moisturized every time I do this at night.
Seriously, don’t skip this step.
Find the right moisturizer
Speaking of moisturizer, it’s important to keep your skin moisturized with the right product. That all depends on your skin type.
If you have oily skin, use a moisturizer aimed at oily skin. Dry skin gals will benefit more from a more hydrating moisturizer. Trying to stop aging? Find a moisturizer that will help you do that.
It can be a little time-consuming to find the right product for your face, but both Sephora and Ulta have tons of products you can try. Make sure to read the reviews before you try anything new out to see if it will work with your skin.
Also, don’t forget to moisturize your body! Moisturizing isn’t only for the face. My favorite body moisturizer right now is the Brazilian Bum bum Cream. Not only does it do its job, but it also smells divine.
Whiten Your Teeth
A white smile looks good on everybody. You should really make sure your teeth don’t turn yellow if you want to have a white smile.
A simple hack is to use whitening strips like these. They not only save you an expensive trip to the dentist, but they can be done at home and they actually work.
Wear Your SPF
Preventing wrinkles, sunspots and other signs of aging starts with a good sunscreen. And no, the one in your face cream doesn’t really do the trick.
The key here is to use a designated SPF that will really protect your face from sun damage.
Another thing I’d like to point out here is that you should be wearing sunscreen no matter what the weather is like outside. The sun still exists even though there might be clouds hiding it.
You should also wear sunscreen no matter what skin color you have. Yes, even my dark-skinned women need to be applying sunscreen every day. If you’re worried about the sunscreen leaving a white cast on your skin, opt for a sunscreen made specifically for darker complexions.
If you have oily skin, choose an oil-free formula like this one, otherwise, you can experiment with different sunscreens until you find your favorite one.
Don’t Touch Your Face
Listen up, your hands are not clean. They should not be going on your face unless you have washed them and are going to apply your skincare.
Other than that, try not to touch your face, ever.
The grime, oil and bacteria on your hands can be bad for your face, causing pimples and clogged pores.
That’s something you definitely want to avoid as much as you can.
Change Your Pillowcase Often
Similarly to touching your face, you have to remember that your pillowcase also accumulates oil from your face, dust and other grime.
Changing it every few days (at least once a week) can help keep your skin clear and your hair looking and feeling fresh.
Invest In Silk Pillowcases
You might be thinking what silk pillowcases have to do with beauty, but the truth is they have a lot to do with it.
Silk is more hygienic than your standard pillowcase materials because it takes in less moisture and dirt. This is perfect for your skin, as you’d want to minimize that as much as possible.
Another amazing thing about silk pillowcases is that they are a lot more gentle on your hair, and can help combat a bed head in the morning.
You should especially think of investing in a silk pillowcase if you have curly hair and tend to wake up with your hair in a mess.
Silk tends to be a little pricey, but you can try this more affordable silk pillow to start with.
Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Your makeup brushes should be deep-cleaned often. This is because they are a bacteria and dirt magnet. The same goes for any beauty sponges you may use in your makeup application, like a Beauty Blender.
I usually spot clean my eye brushes after every couple of uses, but my face brushes get a deep clean every week, or once every 2 weeks at most.
You can use a spot cleaner like this one on days you don’t want to haul your brushes to the sink to get them cleaned.
Use Hair Treatments
What you do with your hair can really help you get soft and luscious locks.
There are so many treatments you can do on your hair at home, but my favorite has to be the Olaplex range. Not only do their products work, but they work on most hair types and textures.
Because they are a little pricey, start with one product and work your way up to more in the future. The good thing about Olaplex, though, is that their products are very concentrated. One bottle will last you months. If you were to get only one thing from their range, I recommend the pre-shampoo No. 3 treatment.
If you like to go the more natural route when it comes to your hair, you can always use ingredients like honey and different oils to achieve your perfect locks.
Get Regular Trims
I used to be one of those women who hated to get haircuts because I wanted my hair to grow.
Not only did that always result in stringy, broken and uneven ends, but it also meant that I had to chop a lot of hair every time I did decide to get a haircut.
The golden rule of trims is to get one every 6 to 8 weeks. Ask your hairdresser to take off a little each time.
This may seem counterproductive, but you are actually going to help your hair grow longer every time you get it cut, because you will be eliminating the chances of split ends.
Apply Dry Shampoo Before Bed
Dry shampoo is one of my favorite beauty secrets ever, but a hack I have found that works with dry shampoo is to apply it at night.
Yes, at night before you go to bed.
Let’s say your hair gets greasy-looking on your 3rd day post-wash. Applying dry shampoo the night before your 3rd day will absorb all the oils that accumulate overnight to help you wake up with hair that can last a couple of days longer.
Trust me, you need to try this.
Use Less Concealer
Sometimes we may think that using a lot of concealer will help us fix our imperfections. That is often not the case.
You should always apply a little concealer, blend it out, and only add more if you think you need extra coverage.
This will help you prevent those pesky concealer lines and your makeup will look so much less cakey.
Use Cuticle Oil
A beautiful manicure can easily look awful if your cuticles are dry and looking crusty.
An easy fix for this is to apply cuticle oil at night. This will help you wake up with beautiful looking hands and a saved manicure.
Don’t Use A Towel On Your Hair
If you are still using a regular towel to dry your hair, you should consider stopping right away. Using a towel can create frizz and actually cause your hair to become easy to break off.
An easy homemade fix for this is using a cotton shirt instead of a towel or investing in a microfiber towel which is a lot more gentle on your hair.
Exfoliate Regularly
Exfoliating once or twice a week will get rid of dead skin cells and leave your skin looking and feeling smooth as a baby’s.
You can use any exfoliator you feel comfortable with, but I personally take the affordable route and use exfoliating gloves. Not only do I not have to buy any exfoliating products, but an exfoliating glove is also gentler than some store-bought sugar based exfoliators.
Just make sure you follow up with a moisturizing lotion when you’re done.
Avoid Mascara Marks
Have you ever applied your mascara only for it to go all over your eyelids? There is an easy and quick fix for this.
All you need is a business card. Yes, a business card.
What you do with the business card is you just place it over your eyelid while you apply your mascara, and all of the excess goes on the business card rather than on your eyelid. You can also do the same for your bottom lashes.
Super easy, and works every time.
Keep Cotton Swabs In Your Purse
Having cotton swabs or q-tips in your purse can be a life-saver in a beauty emergency.
You can use them to clean up your lipstick or gloss on the go, fix any mascara or eyeliner smudges you might get throughout the day, and even take off excess under eye concealer which can sometimes gather under your eyes.
Less Is More
The last tip is to keep it simple. Less is always more when it comes to makeup and skincare.
You don’t need to apply 10 different creams and have a 20-product makeup routine. The key is to find products that work well with your skin type, and use them sparingly.
Also, beauty and makeup trends change all the time, but a fresh-faced makeup look will always be in style. Find a routine that works for you and doesn’t overwhelm you, and you’ll look amazing every day.
Final Thoughts
Beauty is very subjective and everybody has their own preferences when it comes to how they look. Which is why I always stress on the importance of trying new things, but also dropping them if they don’t work for you.
You don’t need to do it all to feel and look beautiful, but trying different hacks and routines can help you find your perfect beauty secrets.

the towel and the hair tots didn’t even think of that. I honestly have wavy, thin blonde hair and it matts up super easy. I’m definitely gonna need to find a fibre towel today while shopping. Thanks boss babe for the tips.

If you have oily skin, you can use aroma magic’s juniper berry moisturizer. It is really effective to reduce excess oil and pimples. I have used it for 2 months now and all my pimples vanished. This really works.
