Personal hygiene is one of those things that people are very particular about. And while we all know we have to shower and brush our teeth, there is so much more to personal hygiene than just that!
I, for one, love anything related to personal hygiene to the point that I’m completely down to trying new things related to it. Over the years, I have tried a lot of tips and tricks other people have shared with me.
Not every hack that I’ve tried agrees with my body, so it’s always good to try things out and see how your body reacts to them. However, some hacks have worked and I still use them to this day.
In today’s post, I am going to be sharing 6 hacks I think every woman needs to know when it comes to personal hygiene. Some of these, I found, not many women know about. They are however great tips for when you’re on the go, and for those days when a little extra TLC is needed.
Psssst… if you’re a lover of self-care, there is a whole section on self-care on the blog. Click here for more self-care posts!

6 Personal Hygiene Hacks For Women
1. Carry A Pick-Me-Up Kit
This is my go-to personal hygiene tip! I carry a little pick-me-up kit in all my purses. Inside of a makeup bag, I carry things that I might need when I’m out and about. Here’s what I have inside it:
- Pocket tissues
- Feminine products
- Chapstick
- Unscented wipes
- Sanitizer
- Blotting sheets
- Compact powder
- Hand lotion
- Perfume samples
- Travel-sized deodorant
These items have saved me when I’ve been out and needed some extra care when it comes to my personal hygiene more times than I can count!
2. Use Sanitizer In A Pinch
This is a really cool hack that I learned recently. If you’re ever out and you notice that your underarms aren’t smelling very fresh, dabbing a little sanitizer (alcohol-based) will kill off the smell-causing bacteria. Of course, this isn’t recommended to do frequently. We all know alcohol isn’t great for our skin. However, it does work when you’re in a pinch. Just remember to wash it all off when you get back home.
3. Wipes In Public Restrooms
The reason why I like carrying flushable wipes around with me is that they come in SO handy in public bathrooms. Only wiping with toilet paper is NOT enough. All that does, in my opinion, is smear things all around that area. Therefore, using wipes to clean up is something I advise every woman to do. Also, you probably know this, but wipe front to back.
4. Skip The Feminine Wash
Feminine washes are advertised as good for our bodies, however, they are more harmful than we may think. The general rule is to not put anything inside our area, as that may cause infections and throw off our PH balance. If you can’t stay away from feminine wash, use a mild feminine wash and only use it to carefully clean the outside of your area.
5. Stay Hydrated
Drinking water throughout the day not only hydrates you from the inside out, but it also helps to detoxify your body from harmful toxins. This is the easiest personal hygiene hack to do, but it can be a little hard to remember to drink water sometimes. What I found helped me with staying hydrated throughout the day is using a reusable water bottle. If you, too, struggle with drinking water, try one out yourself.

6. Wash EVERYTHING
I had a conversation once with a friend who said she never thought she had to wash every nook and cranny. That shocked me, but it also led me to believe that she might not be the only one who thinks so!
I guess there are harder to remember spots on the body like behind the ears, bellybuttons, back of the neck, and back of the thighs. If you usually shower in a rush, you might not remember these areas either. Taking your time and scrubbing everything down is going to keep you fresh and clean all over.
Conclusion:
To conclude this post, I do want to say that all bodies are different. Some of us might need more TLC than just what I outlined above.
When it comes to personal hygiene, the keyword there is personal. However, it’s always fun to experiment with different hacks and I’m all up for trying new things!

Totally agree with some of these – especially skipping the feminine wash, which I still have no idea why it’s even a product! I used to use that as a teenager because I was told to but so glad I stopped! Drinking water is also a really good tip, and I always make sure I have a collection of items to hand should I need them.

I used to use feminine wash too! It’s so bad for us, and it’s a shame they’re being advertised as good for the female body.

Carrying a little, fix me up kit, is such a good idea for long days out! Also great tip about the sanitizer!
Mariam says
Glad you think so! Both of these are really good to have on hand!

Oh, the wet wipes is a good idea. I carried them around with my kids were small – but not since then.
Thanks for the tips!

Yeah, I’m almost addicted to these. They come in handy all the time! Thank you for stopping by!

I totally agree with the first tip about having that ’emergency kit’ with you. Best thing I’ve done in the last few months was packing a pouch to keep in my handbag, with plasters, tampons, lip balm etc. – life saving!

I love mine too! SO useful!

I cracked up at your last point. It’s so funny how people have such heated opinions on that – do you remember the debate about washing your legs that went round Twitter? I personally always wash the places you listed – for some reason, even if I’m just washing my face, I don’t feel clean unless I’ve done my neck and behind my ears! I need to make myself a little emergency kit to take places with me though, that’s genius.
Mariam says
I REMEMBER THAT! Weren’t people saying that they just let the soap drip down to their legs and considered that being enough? That was so nasty! 😂

Loved these tips, so glad that I have had access to such amazing blogs on the internet at such an early age! There’s so much misleading information out there, especially about feminine washes. Mariam, your post cleared all my doubts in 5 minutes. I got inspired by creators like you and created my own blog ‘Sunday Style’. I’d highly appreciate it if anyone would want to check it. There’s posts on 10 hygiene tips and 17 nail care hacks, among many others.

I learnt something new today. Dabbing alcohol on your armpit helps to get rid of odor. 🤓
Jenniffer says
Dont forget to clean the places where you clean; shower, tub toilet, sink etc.

All the ideas are really good. But, I heard people say that usage of femine wash is not always good. Is that true? I myself use it so a bit sceptical.
Mariam says
You can use it on the outside area, but that’s about it. Otherwise it could throw off your PH balance. 🙂
Carolyn says
“Flushable” wipes are not really flushable and they mess with the sewerage system. I wouldn’t recommend using those and flushing them down the toilet.
