1. Remember to Hydrate Your Body
You probably know that drinking water is crucial to good health. Not only that but when we consume healthy amounts of water daily, we are healing our bodies from the inside out.
Water helps keep your skin nice and hydrated which gives a healthy, glowy look. It also works on strengthening your nails and hair. Yes, please.
This is the easiest way to start your glow up summer, and anyone can do it. If you’re someone who has trouble drinking water because you don’t like how it tastes, try infused water. Here are some delicious recipes.
On the other hand, if you simply forget to drink enough during the day, make sure to keep a reusable water bottle around you at all times.
2. Eat Nutritious Food
Another obvious one, but I couldn’t not include it in this post.
Just as drinking plenty of water is important for our body to glow up from the inside, nourishing your body with nutritious food is also going to work on brightening your skin, help you keep a healthy weight, and provide all the nutrients you need to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
If you’re not sure where to start with eating healthy food, here are some easy ways to add more greens, fruit, and whole grains into your diet:
- Opt for a of vegetables with every meal. Think fresh chopped veggies, stews, grilled vegetables, and soups.
- Snack on fruit more than you snack on candy and chips.
- Have a meatless day once a week.
- Replace a few meals a week with smoothies packed with greens, protein, some healthy fats, and tasty fruit of your choice.
3. Find a Workout You Enjoy
Find something you enjoy to get your body moving and do it 3-4 times a week.
Working out isn’t something that many people look forward to doing at first, but it quickly becomes part of your routine if you stay consistent with it.
Going for a brisk walk, swimming, dancing around in your room, or even following a workout video can have a massive impact on your energy levels, sleeping patterns, and waistline.
4. Join a Supportive Community
Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals can help create a supportive and motivating environment. Join fitness classes or group activities that align with your interests or goals.
Not only will you benefit from the collective energy and support, but you may also discover new workout techniques or get inspiration from others’ journeys.
5. Get Enough Sleep
You know how people say they’re going to go “get their beauty sleep”? Turns out, sleep really is a beauty treatment.
Getting enough sleep is one of the best ways to glow up from the inside out. While we sleep, our cells regenerate and our skin is able to make new collagen, which prevents wrinkles and saggy skin. That leads to youthful skin and a rested appearance.
According to Healthline, good sleepers are also known to gain less weight, snack less, and have better athletic performance than those who don’t get enough shut-eye.
If you have trouble falling asleep at night, try these relaxing rituals before bedtime.
6. Revamp Your Wardrobe
Your summer glow up wouldn’t be complete without a wardrobe update. Embrace the vibrant colors, playful patterns, and breezy silhouettes that summer has to offer.
Experiment with new styles, mix and match your clothing pieces, and incorporate accessories that reflect your personality. Remember, confidence shines through when you feel comfortable and authentic in what you wear.

7. Enhance Your Skills and Interests
Summer is the perfect time to seek personal growth and explore new interests. Consider enrolling in a course, attending workshops, or reading books on subjects that have always fascinated you.
By expanding your knowledge and skill set, you’ll develop a stronger sense of self and increase your overall confidence.
8. Learn a Few New Hairstyles
If you’ve been rocking the same hairstyle for a while now, why not learn a few new hairstyles to have under your belt?
There are so many hairstyle ideas you can try without even doing anything drastic to your hair like cutting it or getting it dyed.
If you normally wear your hair straight, you could try out curling it for a change. Like your natural curls? Play around with a few updos and find one or two you really like.
Trying something new with your hair can make you feel like a brand new person, and it is the easiest way to change your look.
9. Try Out an At-Home Tan
Tanning these days is a lot different than what it was in the early 2000s when everyone would lay out in the sun for hours and get nearly burned to a crisp. Besides it being incredibly aging, it’s also ridiculously dangerous. Don’t do it. Instead, why not learn how to perfect a self-tan at home?
I’m a self-tan fanatic, and over the years I’ve tried a whole bunch of self-tanners that are on the market. My favorite has to be St. Tropez.
I highly recommend trying it and prepping your skin properly before applying it with a mitt. That means showering, exfoliating, shaving, drying, then applying the self-tan. It’s the best way I found to avoid looking blotchy, which never happens to me with the range of St. Tropez products.
10. Experiment With Makeup
Switching up your usual look can do wonders for your self-confidence. Why not practice a few new makeup looks this summer? Makeup is such an easy way to change up your look, and if you don’t like it, you can just wash it off!
Take some time this summer to practice winged eyeliner, try out a color of eyeshadow you have not played with before, and maybe even try to master the art of contouring. Your experimenting might lead you to a new look you’ll be obsessed with!
Remember to always apply sunscreen before starting with your makeup!

11. Try a Treatment You Haven’t Tried Before
Why not treat yourself this summer to something you have never done before?
Trying something out of your comfort zone like a facial or a massage can do wonders for your confidence. As I mentioned before, a glow up starts with the inside, and pampering yourself can give you that boost of self-care that will make you feel like a million bucks.
Experimenting with different serums and bath products can also feel luxurious and fancy, and you can do them in the comfort of your own home. This is also more budget-friendly, but it will have similar results to your confidence as pricier treatments.
After all, self-care is self-care no matter what it costs.
12. Try At-Home Laser Hair Removal
I’ve been doing this for the past 2 months and absolutely love the results I’ve had already. Crystal Skin Co specializes in hair removal handsets that remove body hair the same way laser sessions at a laser clinic would.
I love that I am getting the same results at home as if I were regularly going to a laser clinic. Not to mention, the price of their handset is cheaper than the price of one laser session in my area.
To save you even more money on hair removal, Crystal Skin Co have hooked my readers up with a cool 10% off discount! All you need to do to claim it is enter the code MARIAM10 at checkout.
If you’d like to see the Crystal Skin Co handset in action, head over here and here for more information!

Conclusion
Whether you decide to try any of these things out this summer for your glow up, remember that the most important thing is that you stay true to yourself. If you’re not a fan of fake tan, don’t do it just because I say so!
Doing whatever makes you happy will be the best glow up for you, because it will be something that makes you comfortable in your own skin.

Under normal circumstances I’d be using the time now to defuzz, exfoliate, paint my nails, deep condition my hair, get my LVLs done etc. But having to homeschool our daughter and knowing we’re not going abroad this year has kind of put the kybosh on all that. Drinking water is something I can keep on top of though, and I will have to look again at how I can give myself a summer glow up with some more of your tips, thank you! Lisa x

I like to come out of spring the same way that you like to come out of summer: improved! I had no idea that water could strengthen hair and nails. I will continue to drink plenty of it! You have provided a lot of great tips. What I am working on this summer is hair care. Since it’s the quarantine, I have been reapplying coconut oil and giving my hair two fresh braids each day. It has been added much needed moisture to my once dry hair and keeping it braided has protected it from damage and breakage. I have also started adding powdered collagen to my tea that I drink at night as part of my bedtime routine. I will try to work in some more of your suggestions, too!
Mariam says
Thank you for reminding me about drinking my collagen! I have a whole pot that’s just sitting there collecting dust haha. Your hair is going to hopefully incredible in a few weeks with all the moisture!

I tend to do the complete opposite of glow up in the summer because my hay fever is always so bad that I can’t wear make up, my eyes are swollen, my nose is always bleeding and I just feel awful 😂 But these are fab tips. I need to invest in some new fake tan – I used to fake tan loads but have stopped lately but having a tan always makes me feel better!
Mariam says
Ah that’s too bad! I agree with you about the tan, I always feel better with it on too! 😌

Definitely just as important to make healthy changes as well as more superficial ones like makeup! Great tips

Fantastic post, I love your tips. Will have to try those infused water recipes, I don’t mind drinking water that much, but some change of taste is also nice in a while. And I guess I will add some make-up looks, despite not being able to go out and summer going to be the same as the past few months, but I got some new make-up and I want to try out some combos. 🙂 Thanks for this post

Thank you for sharing your tips! I’m planning out a 30-day glow-up challenge for myself and will definitely be incorporating some of your ideas. One thing I want to start with is a deep clean/declutter of my house. I think it’ll be a good way to start my challenge.

Such a good way to start! That’s one of the biggest tasks so I’m sure it will feel amazing getting it done.
