The New Year is almost upon us! In today’s post, I am going to be sharing ideas for New Year’s resolutions for anybody who is interested in bettering their life in the New Year.
Resolutions are a funny thing. They are often made and broken the second week into January but I personally made a vow to myself not to let that happen this year, and to stick to a few until they become a habit.
Are you with me? Great!
Let’s get into the list of New Year’s resolutions!

Reading more should be on everybody’s New Years’ resolutions list! Apart from it being super educational and a great way to pass the time, it is also a stress-reliever as well as an easy way to work on personal development. Drink enough water
I’m sure you know by now that our bodies are made majorly of water. Which is why it is vital to our wellbeing to stay hydrated and drink enough water throughout the day.
If you’re struggling to drink enough water, I find that having a water bottle on me really helps. I use a reusable stainless steel bottle which keeps my water cool all day and I absolutely love it. Another cool trick to drinking more water is to add fruit slices into it to make it taste better!
Move your body more
I think one of the most common New Years’ resolutions ever is to get in shape and exercise more.
What I’ve found to be true for me regarding exercise, is finding an activity I actually enjoy doing and staying consistent with it. I never liked running, so I’d give up as soon as I’d start just because it wasn’t the right choice for me.
Nowadays, there are a ton of different classes, YouTube videos, and kinds of gyms that suit different needs. If your New Year’s resolution is to move more, experiment with different forms of exercise until you find one which suits you.
Start taking vitamins
Taking vitamins is a great way to keep your body functioning well and keeping healthy. Before I go on, I do have to say that everybody has different needs and the vitamins I take might not be suitable for everybody, so please check with your doctor before starting any new vitamins.
I’ve been a fan of skin, hair and nails vitamins for a few years now and always find new brands to try out, and lately, I’ve been loving the LQ Skin, Hair & Nails supplements. They come in liquid form which is very new to me and taste a little like berries which I really like. You can check out LQ Supplements by clicking here.
Take up journaling
Journaling is a great way to get in touch with your feelings. I’m somebody who doesn’t really enjoy talking about my feelings but I’m much better at writing about them.
Journaling a few times a week helps with relaxation, releasing stress, and I personally found that I understand the way I think more when I write them down. If you’re new to journaling and would like to give it a try, here are 50 journal prompts for self-growth
Start saving money
Ah, the old saving money New Year’s resolution. Saving money, as we all know, is a necessity. From saving for retirement, to having an emergency fund, saving is something that everybody has to work towards.
One of my favorite ways to save is by creating and sticking to a budget. I also find that making more money comes in very handy in saving. I use Rakuten to get cashback for my online purchases, and I’ve already made a few hundred dollars from it! Start a meditation practice
I started meditating most mornings as a part of my morning routine. Without a doubt, it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made this year.
Since taking up meditation, I’ve noticed I’m happier, my stress levels have gone down, and I’m a lot more appreciative of the people and things in my life.
If you have been wanting to get into meditating, make it a priority for 2020. I find my guided meditations on YouTube, but there are also apps you can download that have guided meditations for beginners.
Give up some bad habits
Whether it’s stopping smoking, walking more, limiting the amount of alcohol you consume, or simply washing your makeup off at night, the New Year is the perfect time to give up old habits and replace them with healthier ones.
I know I have a few bad habits I want to stop in the New Year, and I’m sure everybody has at least one area of their lives they want to improve on as well.
Start a side hustle
I really encourage everybody to start a side hustle because it’s a great way to make some extra income. Sometimes even passive income! Hello, making money in your sleep!
Side hustles are now easier than ever to start. For the most part, all you need is a wi-fi connection and, for some, a vehicle, and you’re set!
If you’d like some ideas on what you could start as a side hustle, here are 10 ideas for a side hustle you can check out. There’s something in there for everybody!
Get more sleep
A lot of people struggle with not getting enough sleep. Sleep, however, is so important for our health and wellbeing.
If you struggle with falling asleep at a reasonable hour, there are steps you can take to combat that. My post on 10 relaxing things to do before bed will show you ways in which you can quiet your mind and get your body ready for sleep.
Give back
Giving back is one of the best ways to see how fortunate we are. Often times we are so wrapped up in what we don’t have, that we don’t realize that others lack the very things we take for granted.
Some ways to give back to the community are:
- donating old or unworn clothes
- volunteering at a soup kitchen
- donating money to shelters or a cause you’re passionate about
- participating in fundraisers
- helping a child or family in need
- volunteering at your local senior living community
Do something new more often
When was the last time you did something new for the first time?
Stepping out of your comfort zone and doing something you’d never done before is an awesome way to ring in the New Year. Create a bucket list or a list of goals you’d like to accomplish in 2020 and make the most out of the coming year!
Plan your days out
I believe that the key to staying organized and not overwhelming myself is to plan my days out.
Planning helps me keep on top of my busy schedule and keeps me less likely to forget about any important tasks I need to get to. Plus, the satisfaction of crossing out things from my to-do list makes it all worth it!
If your New Years resolution is to be more organized, grab yourself a planner and start planning your days out.
Start a blog
When I started my blog at the beginning of this year, I had no idea I’d love it so much. If you’ve been thinking about starting one, I highly encourage you to just go ahead and start one!
If you’d like to learn how to set up a blog from scratch in just 15 minutes, leave your email below to access my free 7-day email training on how to start a blog!
Start saying affirmations
I only found out about positive affirmations and the Law of Attraction earlier this year. It’s safe to say that I’ve become a huge fan of affirmations, and regularly say them or write them.
Positive affirmations help with managing stress as well as with keeping negative thoughts away. I also found that my gratitude for things in my life has increased a lot since I’ve started saying affirmations. Here are 50 positive affirmations to get you started.

I already do most of these actually but these are fab ideas for anyone struggling to think of some new year goals! The drinking enough water one is SO SIMPLE but so many people need it! x
I completely agree about drinking water! It’s such a simple thing but many people, unfortunately, struggle with it! Thank you for stopping by!
These are great! I always like to plan days out in advance, but I think my problem is actually not freaking out and actually sticking to the plans! The doing stuff more often point is something I’m definitely going to need to work more on in upcoming year. I really like how you have included goals which don’t take up too much time and aren’t too ambitious but can still be quite challenging and will make a difference in how we feel about ourselves.
those are awesome resolutions! specially moving more! lol and love the journaling idea! i’ll definitely take this on this year as a self-care moment for myself!
Pretty much all of these are on my resolutions list for this year, haha! I want to make a lot more time for the things that are good for me and my soul, so definitely drinking more water, exercising more and spending time meditating. I have a gratitude journal which I love and I’m trying to really work with the Law of Attraction more too! I also really want to give back more – I used to volunteer 20+ hours a week and I would love to feel like I’m doing something to help others again.
Beth x Adventure & Anxiety
Oh I love the sound of volunteering! I actually need to get more serious about it, thank you so much for the inspiration!
These are all really good but I think the vitamin one is so important – I’ve never really taken them before (except for SAD) but starting Veganuary has taught me just how deficient we all are in certain vitamins! I think I’d like to start taking omega 3, B12, and iodine.
All important vitamins! I recently found out I have a few deficiencies so I’ve been sticking to taking them for the most part.
Thanks so much! This post is great – some really thoughtful ideas. I’m going to get a journal right now!
